Doubly charged Higgs from ee-γ\gamma scattering in the 3-3-1 Model

We studied the production and signatures of doubly charged Higgs bosons in the process γeHE+\gamma e^- \rightarrow H^{--}E^+, where E+E^+ is a heavy lepton, at the ee+e^-e^+ International Linear Collider (ILC) and CERN Linear Collider (CLIC). The intermediate photons are given by the Weizsa¨\ddot{a}cker-Williams and laser backscattering distributions. We found that significant signatures are obtained by bremsstrahlung and backward Comptom scattering of laser. A clear signal can be obtained for doubly charged Higgs bosons, doubly charged gauge bosons and heavy leptons

ABSTRACT: In September of 2016 a new digital communications network for the Azores Civil Protection (SRPCBA) was inaugurated providing digital, voice and Ethernet LAN telemetry capabilities to the Centre for Information and Seismovolcanic Surveillance of the Azores (CIVISA). During 2017, the telemetry links from all monitoring techniques were reconnected to the new communication system. In 2018 the CIVISA has started the migration from analogue to digital seismic stations and this process allow to liberate few short period geophones. At the CIVISA’s Information and Communication Technologies Support group (SATIC), motivated by the availability of sensors, an instrumentation project was started with the objective of develop affordable digital data acquisition system (DAS) for geophones and a Wi-Fi telemetry to transmit seismic data to the Data Acquisition Centre (CAD) of CIVISA, in Ponta Delgada.

Assessing the Integrated Impact of Sustainable Innovation on Organisational Performance: An Empirical Evidence From Manufacturing Firms

    Get PDF
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have gained importance and the world is moving on a sustainability trajectory, which requires organisations to balance financial, environmental, and social dimensions of management. Companies are encouraged to adopt sustainable innovations that include resource efficiency, waste reduction, energy use, responsible behavior etc., to overcome environmental issues and incorporate societal aspects. However, the types of innovations that embrace the so-called triple bottom line philosophy have been tenuously investigated in relation to organisational performance of firms. Through an empirical study, this work investigates the relationship between sustainable innovation in its three dimensions and organisational performance, including stakeholder management, human resource management and process measures, in the context of Italian manufacturing companies. The results show that a greater emphasis on sustainable innovations has a positive impact on the organisational performance and competitive advantage of firms, revealing the key role of human capital and portraying important avenues for future research

t-channel production of heavy charged leptons

We study the pair production of heavy charged exotic leptons at e+ e- colliders in the SU(2)_L x SU(2)_I x U(1)_Y model. This gauge group is a subgroup of the grand unification group E6; SU(2)_I commutes with the electric charge operator, and the three corresponding gauge bosons are electrically neutral. In addition to the standard photon and Z boson contributions, we also include the contributions from extra neutral gauge bosons. A t-channel contribution due to W_I-boson exchange, which is unsuppressed by mixing angles, is quite important. We calculate the left-right and forward-backward asymmetries, and discuss how to differentiate different models.Comment: Increased discussion of experimental signatures. Version accepted by PR

Lifetime suicidal-related behaviour among patients in treatment forsubstance use disorder: a cross-sectional study

Suicidal-related behaviours are an important concern in individuals who present with substance use disorders (SUDs). The distinction among the specific characteristics of the different patients might help to improve prevention strategies. We describe and compare the sociodemographic characteristics, severity of addiction, and psychopathology of the participants depending on the severity of their lifetime suicidal behaviour. In addition, we examine whether the number of suicide attempts can be estimated based on the variables that differentiate the groups. A sample of 318 men and 86 women who sought treatment for addiction were assessed. The sample was divided into: no ideation or attempts, suicidal ideation, one suicide attempt, and two or more suicide attempts. The group with two or more suicide attempts exhibited a greater severity in the addiction profile. The group with one suicide attempt presented a higher psychopathological symptomatology at the time of the assessment. The severity of the Psychiatric area was related to the group with two or more attempts and to the number of suicide attempts. The presence of any number of attempts is associated with greater severity of addiction. Providing specific intervention strategies for SUD patients depending on their suicidal behaviours is promising for clinical application. The first author was supported by a grant from the European UnionNext Generation EU by Ministerio de Universidades (Gobierno de España) and Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU). A detailed protocol for a rapid analysis of testicular cell populations using flow cytometry

    Get PDF
Accurate analysis and quantification of different testicular cell populations are of central importance in studies of male reproductive biology. The traditional histomorphometric and immunohistochemical methods remain the gold standard in studying the complex dynamics of the testicular tissue. Through past years advances have been made in the application of flow cytometry for the rapid analysis of testicular cell populations. Detection of DNA content and of surface antigens and fluorescent reporters have been widely used to analyze and sort cells. Detection of intracellular antigens can broaden the possibilities of applying flow cytometry in studies of male reproduction. Here, we report a detailed protocol for the preparation of rat testicular tissue for detection of intracellular antigens by flow cytometry, and a pipeline for subsequent data analysis and troubleshooting. Rat testicular ontogenesis was chosen as the experimental model to validate the performance of the assay using vimentin and gamma H2AX as intracellular markers for the somatic and spermatogenic cells, respectively. The results show that the assay is reproducible and recapitulates the rat testis ontogenesis.Peer reviewe

Effect of the Influent COD Concentration on the Anaerobic Digestion of Winery Wastewaters from Grape-Red and Tropical Fruit (Guava) Wine Production in Fluidized Bed Reactors with Chilean Natural Zeolite for Biomass Immobilization

    Get PDF
The effect of the influent COD concentration on the performance of anaerobic fluidized bed reactors treating winery wastewaters from grape-red wine (GRWW) and guava wine production (GWW) was studied at laboratory scale. Two reactors were used: one treating GRWW (AFB1) and the other processing GWW (AFB2). The behaviour of these reactors packed with Chilean zeolite as biomass immobilization support was compared at mesophilic temperature (35 °C). Influent COD varied from γ = 1–24 g L–1 and the HRT was maintained constant at 1 day throughout the experiment. During the experiment, influent and effluent pH, TVFA, COD and methane gas production were determined. COD removal efficiency increased with the influent COD up to a maximum of around γ = 19 g L–1 for GRWW and up to around 22 g L–1 for GWW due to the increase of the concentration of phenols. Process performance was slightly better with guava winery wastewater than with grape-red winery wastewater due its lower phenolic content. During the period of non-inhibition the methane yield was virtually constant
